you can put some wax on the edge of the bushing that meets the blank and that will help keeping the bushing from getting glued to the pen. I turn between centers and simply remove the bushings when I get ready to finish.

I think you always want to go fast when applying CA finish. I would round a piece of wood and sand it to 400 grit and then practice on it a few times before I try a pen.

I use papertowels folded longways about 6 folds thick. I dab a bit of boiled linseed oil on the towel and then put a drop of thin ca on it and press it to the spining blank and move it back and forth pretty fast starting with light pressure and gradually increasing it when the ca goes shiny that coat is finished. After several coats of thin I switch to medium.

Somewhere on the forums or in the library there is a video of someone doing a CA finish. Do a search and see if you can find it. It helped me a lot when I first got started.

Get ready for the onslaught . You are about to get 5622 different ways to do a CA finish , everyone is THE RIGHT way to do it and some are the ONLY way .
I will start you off with the simplest way and then the methods will get more and more complicated . You have to decide which way to do it but I warn you , some will require Yellow socks .:biggrin:

I'm also giving you a link to a thread that is posted right under yours that you should read , if nothing else just for laughs .:biggrin:

Your on your own :eek::confused::beat-up:

Remember one of the hardest things is to find a CA and stick to it as they all will be just a little different. I use Monty's stuff it is very well priced and it is consistant. I can get the same results over and over if I do my part. He is very good to deal with as well as a member here.

thanks for all the useful info i tried a ca finsh on a scrap piece of wood last night and was very pleased with the way it turned out now if i can get the same results when i do a pen i will be happy
