I put about 16 coats of thin CA on an ancient kauri zen just like I always do, but when I went to sand with 12,000 mm, it was sanding wood not acrylic. I then had to turn the pen well below the bushings to get the CA off, and proceeded to try again. After 2 paper towels and about 30-50 coats of thin CA, it is still dull with no CA buildup whatsoever. Need help so I can finish this. I have been putting CA on this pen for the last TWO AND A HALF HOURS:mad:

Ancient Kauri is usually like a sponge, I honestly would suggest using something like Mylands High Cellulose sanding sealer, it won't change the color and after a few hours, you can apply CA over it.

Not sure about the ancient Kauri, but I've had the same problems with some curly Narra I have. It just seems that no matter how many coats of CA...Thick thin or whatever, I sand right through it with micromesh almost instantly. Gave up on CA for the particular wood after 3rd different blank with same results. It might be something in the wood...couldn't figure it out either.

I figured that if I threw as much CA at it as possible, it would eventually reach a point where it can't absorb anymore, but we will see. Bitshird, I used some of that at school one time and works well, will try it on next pen, but with CA on it already, I need to try to salvage this one, I can't sand it anymore.

Quite a bit of thick CA, some mm, and a little buffing later I now have a descent pen. The only downfall is a little cloudiness in the finish, but not too bad. Nobody would notice unless they turn themselves. Thanks for all the help, and thank goodness we have CA accelerator.
