I've done a few blanks with Shellawax liquid and they look great on the lathe but after some handling and assembly they lost some of their shine. According to their website, this could be due to the species of wood(although it doesn't specify which) or I could have one in ten thousand acidic perspiration. The woods in question are desert ironwood, curly eucalyptus and coco bolo.

I would like to try to put a CA finish on top to see if that helps, but the instructions are pretty adamant about not mixing the finish with others. Has anyone done this successfully or know that it works?

If you are going to refinish the pen you will need to disassemble it first. You could just put another layer of Shellawax but you would end up with the same results. If you want to finoish with CA, I'd lightly sand to remove the Shellawax, then with the blank with CA accelerator before applying the CA finish.
