Everyone would tell you their way of doing a ca finish and believe me they are all different. My way of doing a ca finish is to do a final sanding from 320 to 600 grit on the blank, then I use mylands sanding sealer, then on to applying the ca I use Scotts blue shop towels foldind it 4 or five times so the glue don't go thru into your fingers,I start with thin ca and do maybe 4 or 5 coats applying ca accelarator after each application of ca, then I dry sand the blank again, this time I sand only once at 400 grit and very lightly just to get rid of major swirl lines left by the towel, and follow with wet micromesh starting with orange and finishing with black. Now I do the same steps but now using medium ca after finishing the sanding process I use Novus 2 to get rid of the micro scratches and finish with liquid car wax.You can also use auto scratch out instead of Novus 2.My best advice is to keep on trying. Ca finish has a learning curve that sometimes can be trying.Oh I forgot to metion I use NCF Quick Accelerator from satellite City a little expensive but it works wonders because it goes on almost dry not oily like others I've tried. And I use EZ Bond Ca.Good luck and Use a Respirator.

I second the learning curve with CA... it took me some practice to get to the point I'm at now. its very seldom I have a finicky ca finish any more... lots of practice... maybe even on scrap sample blanks so you don't loose a kit.

I do my very similar to Hector. I will say this... when i use the accelerator after each coat now I only give it a very small puff from back always. I feel a lot of people use way too much and it can cause some of the troubles you describe. on top of that the excess accelerator with make the CA very brittle to work with.

I have been playing with CA finishes. I got the "I can't believe this finish" kit from PSI and felt like there method was wasting a lot of CA as you sand most of it off after applying. So far I like the BLO/CA method.....no sanding required and a very high gloss finish. I don't like the accelerator as it seems to make the finish bubble or get ridgy. Then sanding is necessary to get a shine. This is just what works for me though. There is a short you tube vid about applying the BLO/CA finish I found very helpfull. One thing that I don't like is the BLO tends to yellow lighter woods. I did however find the same yellowing from mylands friction polish.

CA is an art all its own. I use a modified Russ method and get good results most of the time, sometimes not so good. Then it is back to the sanding and much more CA. Just keep up the practice.

I start off with a thin coat of BLO and let it set overnight. When I get ready to apply the CA, I again apply a very thin coat of BLO, then 4 coats of thin CA. Depending on conditions, I may hit it with a quick shot of accelerator. Then off to the medium CA and 6 coats of that. I keep my applicator, brown Taco Bell napkins, coated with BLO. This does two things, )1 it keeps the CA from soaking through and sticking to my finger, and )2 acts as a mild accelerator. Again a shot of accelerator as needed between coats of medium CA with a final shot after the last coat. Then MM through to 12,000 and a final buffing with Plastex polish using a wool sock and a finish with mirror glaze auto polish scratch filler. Glass. It is almost guaranteed that your millage will vary.

Oh, I almost forgot, yellow socks. Do not forget the yellow socks! Anytime you are applying CA, you must be wearing yellow socks, standing on your left, or is it the right, foot and muttering at the top of your voice some obscure Hawaiian chant all the while using the brown Taco Bell napkins. What did I forget this time?
Seriously, just practice, practice, practice.
