CA is an art all its own. I use a modified Russ method and get good results most of the time, sometimes not so good. Then it is back to the sanding and much more CA. Just keep up the practice.
I start off with a thin coat of BLO and let it set overnight. When I get ready to apply the CA, I again apply a very thin coat of BLO, then 4 coats of thin CA. Depending on conditions, I may hit it with a quick shot of accelerator. Then off to the medium CA and 6 coats of that. I keep my applicator, brown Taco Bell napkins, coated with BLO. This does two things, )1 it keeps the CA from soaking through and sticking to my finger, and )2 acts as a mild accelerator. Again a shot of accelerator as needed between coats of medium CA with a final shot after the last coat. Then MM through to 12,000 and a final buffing with Plastex polish using a wool sock and a finish with mirror glaze auto polish scratch filler. Glass. It is almost guaranteed that your millage will vary.
Oh, I almost forgot, yellow socks. Do not forget the yellow socks! Anytime you are applying CA, you must be wearing yellow socks, standing on your left, or is it the right, foot and muttering at the top of your voice some obscure Hawaiian chant all the while using the brown Taco Bell napkins. What did I forget this time?
Seriously, just practice, practice, practice.
