Working on my CA / BLO-CA finish today to get it perfect (if there is such a thing) Anyway, I threw two blanks on the lathe, turned, sanded both halves then finished one half with CA and the other half with Mylands Friction polish. Ive tried about five different methods today...

After close scrutiny by myself and my wife (she is just an observer, not a turner) , We do not see a difference in the two finishes. This is the best finish I have done to date . So the big question is, is this good or bad? Do you turners out there get a better finish with CA than you do Friction Polish?? Or is it comparable or what?

For my own reasons I want to steer clear of FP in the future. (not saying its bad, just not what I want to put on a pen) Ive stuck to acrylic pens recently because I haven't been happy with a CA finish.

I obviously will stick to my new method since its the best Ive done but is there more for me to do? I will continue to tweak it of course as I guess we are always looking for something better. But I believe Ive found a great starting point.

Thanks!!! Looking forward to your replies.

A good CA finish can make the pen look as if it has been dipped in glass. FP just does not give the same level of depth as CA, nor is it anywhere near as durable as CA.
