I searched around and couldn't find this, so if the answer is already posted and I just missed it feel free to someone smack me upside the back of the head.

I've experimented my way to a CA + BLO finish which works well..... gorgeous finish. I'm still getting the hang of it, but I'm curious..... what exactly does the combination do? Do the two chemically combine to perform some sort of magic or does the BLO just keep your applicator from grabbing so you can polish the CA AS it cures? Something else maybe? I'm just curious.

Thanks:)

That's about all it ever did for me, acted as a lubricant keeping the PT from sticking, and had some accelerating action also, so the CA hardened quicker than it would on it's own (but still slower than true accelerator).

I had CA/BLO nearly down, but it was taking a fair amount of time, when I went to just CA and Accelerator. Without the BLO, you use a bit more CA, since it soaks into the PT while the BLO keeps the CA on the surface of the PT, but I was having problems with layers of CA not bonding to each other well because of the BLO residue...

The blo brings out the grain in the wood and act as a mild accelerator for the ca.

Yeah, I was doing just CA and accelerator originally, but at 12 dollars for an 8 oz can of accelerator or 10 bucks for a GALLON of BLO:) I've not had problems with the BLO preventing CA layers from "bonding" but ...... the future has yet to come.

THanks:)

CA/BLO Finish = crap CA Only is the answer

I, like many people couldn't get a perfect finish on my pens I tried Friction Polish, Lacquer CA and CA/BLO finish. I was frustrated by the inconsistent results that I got? The answer can be found at http://www.cafinish.com. Eric has discovered the answer and the answer is a CA pen finish that is faster, more durable, and glossier than any other pen finish out there. I bought his DVD, followed his instructions and made three pens with the best finish I have ever seen on all three of them. I am no longer frustrated and I look forward to making pens and putting the perfect finish on. Good luck.

How did you find this Eric guy? I constantly search the internet for stuff about pen making and have never seen that before.
