Learned my lesson this weekend. I was playing around with a CA finish and sprayed a little accelerator onto the blank that I had just applied the CA to and guess I didn't way long enough and touched the blank to see if it had dried... Sure enough it hadn't but don't worry, the accelerator finished the job on my finger. That stuff gets hot, hot hot!! I have a pretty nice blister on my finger now, and am a little more educated in the chemical reaction that happens between the two! Lesson learned...this grasshopper needs a little more patience obviously.

David, Welcome to the club.

Now that you have first "hand" experience, Imagine what happened to me the day that I had my wife helping me glue up a complex project.... apparently some CA puddled on the workbench, the project and both her hands. One shot of accelerator and I glued both her hands to the workbench....It was the first time I actually thought about "forgetting" that de-bonder existed, cause once I got her loose...not a pretty picture.

What really sucks is when the paper towel gets stuck to your fingers and its burning the crap out of you! Jumping around and trying to pull that off is painful. Then when you get it off, you look around to see if anyone saw you!:rolleyes:

I used accelerator for the first time last night and was also surprised by the reaction. it gets rather hot. Mind you I wear gloves so I didn't get stuck to anything .

I did a lot of CA applications this weekend. I seemed to be putting on a new nitrile glove for each pen barrel I coated. I never stuck myself to the wood, but I sure lost a lot of glove fingertips. And I did feel the heat. Must have been the high humidity in the garage, as this usually doesn't happen.

why I never use accelerator in penmaking and use BLO/CA mix

I also found the accelerator has a higher chance of turning white, never have that problem with the BLO combo

Claiming to never having bees stuck with CA is much like the guy with a chain saw that says he never had a tree fall the wrong way. He is either lying or has cut very few trees. If you haven't been stuck to/with CA, keep trying, it will happen.
Don't you just 'love' CA? I sure do!
