Byrnes Model TS Wild Rumors

A friend and avid model train builder called me and said the he read that Mr. Byrnes is bringing a tilting blade model of the mini table saw to market.

Has anyone else heard this? I know MicroMark already makes one of these, but to me the Byrnes seems to be much better built and about the same money.

If this IS the case, my friend and I could go in halfs on the saw, but he really wants a tilting blade.

The Byrnes site says they are offering a tilting table. The original post suggests a tilting blade.

I would be interested in a tilting blade version also.

I guess my friend just got confused. He was talking about a tilting blade (like the Micro Mark). I bet he just mistook the tilting table for a tilting blade,

While both a tilting table and a tilting blade accomplish more or less the same tasks, this would require me "backward think" my 30 years of table saw experience. That could be a BIG NEW trick for such an old dog

In my opinion I don't think it would be a big deal for such a small saw cutting small pieces. I started out wood working with a Shopsmith. That is a tilting table table saw. The only time I felt awkward using it was cross cutting a heavy workpiece. You really had to secure the work to get an accurate cross cut. With pen blank material I don't think the tilt of the table would hinder you much.

BINGO! I would have a hard time dealing with the table tilt. Now it also does not allow for cutting anything wide down the center on an angle. By wide I mean five inches for this saw.

The other thing that I gleaned from the website is that it appears the table locks at 45 degrees?
Is it only at 45 degrees?
I gotta see this critter in person and see if I am smart enough to use it. This could open up a bunch of possibilities for scalloped segmenting.

The web site says it locks at "up to" 45 degrees. This leads me to believe it's adjustable from 0-45 degrees.

I was looking at the miter gauge to see if it possibly had a means of holding the wood while sliding the miter gauge along the tilted top. This could really be helpful in holding the wood in a specific position while cutting.
