I was able to show some pens to a local bookstore, they bought 3 and would like to put some on consingment. I am now listed as a vendor with this store. Do I need a tax#? I would like to deduct some stuff for next year. I made all my displays. Is there anyone else thats doing this?

Are YOU charging the customer sales tax? As to what you stated, it sounds more like that you are a Supplier/Manufacturer. Regardless you should contact your states small business department or even your local economic development or the chamber of commerce they should know or at least provide as to where you can locate the information.

The three they bought no tax. The other pen will be consignment 10/90 split for rent space? they are charging tax at sale, they will cut me a check for agreed price. The price will very with diffrent kit that ok with them.

You won't have to collect sales tax. But you should get the permit to show you want to operate as a business. As others have said, go to your state's Dept. of Revenue or equivalent for more information.

It depends on how the sale is handled. If the bookstore records it as a normal sale and collects the tax when a sale is made you do not need a tax number. If they buy the pens and offer them for resale, you need to have a record of their tax number and the fact that they are exempt.

If they record it as the consigner making the sale they will collect the tax and pass it on to you, but you will have to have an tax number and report and pay the tax to the state. Having said that, if you make any sales to the end user, you will need to have a tax number.

Be glad your not in California, They want your first born, $25,000.00 bond, and a $1,000,000.00 EPA approved dust/Hazard waste collection system installed. Then you can sell your yearly $500.00 worth of pens.

Oh and a large $$$ donation to the Governers favorite charity, but the check has to go through one of the governers aids to get to the charity.
