Hi all,

I have looked but not luck finding anything about it... yet.

I have my father's old leather briefcase. It is one of those heavy duty brick types. It has been in the garage for a few years at his place. On a recent trip to his house, I asked for it, and with and odd look, he said sure why not.

Funny thing was there was an LA Times news paper in it from 1996. Guess he has not used it in a while.

I would like to convert it to a traveling pen case to hold several pens. I would be kind of cool to get it to open up then fold out like a fishing tackle box.

Just my rambling thoughts on it. Anyone else have a similar idea? Surely I am not the first to try to do this.

Here is what I am starting with. image.jpg

This is what I have done in the past with different types of boxes. Cut a piece of 3/4" MDF so that it fits inside the top and bottom. Put a 1/2" core bit in your router and cut grooves equaly spaced 1/2" in deep in the panels. Cover them with self stick felt or use a flocking kit to add a cushion for your pens. Place an elastic strip across the slots and secure between grooves. Depending on the size of your case and the way you place your pens, you should be able to hold 30-50 or more pens in your case. Look at the cases offered by PSI and others, and use that as your guide. Remember tackle boxes are usualy deep and have thin metal or plastic trays in them. When you have any type of weight in them they fall over when opened. Plus, if they don't fully open, they are hard to get items out of. My wife has a little antique sewing cabinet from Sweden that opens up from the middle like a tackle box would and has 8-10 trays plus storage inside. Jim S
