I want to make my friend a stamp slimline pen. Is there a maximum lenght the tube can be to still work the transmission? I guess that would be the same for any slimline. Possiblly turn it into a long, long click.

Check the library for a tutorial on making one piece slim lines. That would give you a long blank to wrap the stamps and still maintain the slimline diameter. I think the blank size is about 4-1/2 inches.

The pencil slimline has a non moveable upper tube as it is pressed to the lower. These would be optimal, same with a long clicker, artist sketch pencil and the like.

The slimline pens need the top tube to rotate for the transmission.

Essentially true, but....The one piece slimline mod essentially makes it a nib twist. The top tube is glued in but the bottom one is not and you have a nice long unintterupted barrel. You can also extend the top tube and make it as long as you want either by using a longer replacement tube or by making it closed ended. Take a look at Don Ward's site. He has a lot of good material on slimline modifications.
