Dear friends,

I turned one of the bowling ball blanks from POC. I had no problems turning it, but I'm not happy with the finish. I think I'm missing something here. I can't get it to shine. If you've had some luck with these, I'd graciously appreciate your tips. Thanks

My goof. I just did a search for "acrylic" and found some interesting information. I should have searched first, written second. Sorry to waste your time. Let me absorb what was written there.

Had the same problem with my first bowling ball pen. No shine, I found out later that just as the material is produced using heat, it needs to be finished using heat as well. Sheila from POC sent me an insert with my last order of Bowling ball that suggests using friction polish to "burn in" the finish. I'm sure if you called her she'd be more than happy to send you the same instructions

I've had tremendous success on Bowling Ball blanks using Hut Plastic polish http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/images/089-0106.jpg
Which I get from CSUSA

I usually sand with MM to 1200 and then apply the polish with a fairly heavy cotton rag. The stuff generates a lot of heat (thus the heavy rag). The blanks come out very shiny and get some "depth" to the finish.

HTH.
