Hi.... this pooped up on Craigslist today (and as all you know, I have been scouring a 4 state area, to replace my HF lathe. The 2nd owner had it for 2 years, and had never used it. It is a Jet JWL1410. Originally, the poster was asking $275 (which included a Nova Chuck, New Pen Mandrel, a couple of Pen Kits, and a new 7mm drillbit). It ran fine, and seemed true, but... when we tried to change speeds, the belt would not go onto some of the pulleys... closer inspection showed that the belt was the incorrect one - I found the part online, and showed him... ate this point, I was getting ready to leave.... and then he asked if I would take it for $175 (he did not want to have to change the belt). I countered with $150, and am now the 3rd owner!
So.... How painful is a belt change? Would WoodCraft or Rockler have them in stock? (both are nearby). Is there a better aftermarket solution?
and most importantly (for my mental health) - was this a good deal?
Thanks, Guys, for all the help so far -
Richard
