Book about trees

Is there ONE book that tells the reader the information about all the tree types of the world? Where they come from? What is hard/soft/other? Useage of said tree and what works the best?

So many different woods have other names and are still the same. Just looking for the best one (book) to have in my information - education.

I can't narrow it down to just one book, but here are three that I use all the time. Know Your Woods. By Albert J Constantine Jr. A compete guide to trees, woods, and veneers. This is an older book, and is in black and white. 360 pages
World Woods in Color. By Willam A. Lincoln. Information on 275 commercial woods. 320 pages in beautiful color.
The Encyclopedia of Wood. By Aidan Walker. A tree by tree guide to the world's most versatile resource. 192 pages in color.
I would recomend any or all of these books.
Also you might want to check with Yale University's Samuel James Record Memorial Collection. They house over 52,000 specimens of wood, the largest collection in the world. They may have other suggestions or books. Jim S

There's a book called Woods of the World... also out in a computer disc/program that's pretty comprehensive... don't have a copy of the book, but do have the disc.

I have about 4-5 different books about wood and haven't found one that has all the wood in it. You might look at the website Got Wood they feature descriptions of different woods in each newsletter. Some sites on line that have good descriptions.

As an arborist, my number one go to book on trees is Manual of Woody Landscape Plants by Michael Dirr. This is the best overal text on trees, IMO. I also rely on some state specific books (Missouri) when I need local information.
