Also known as Denim pine and beetle kill. Has anyone used this? I saw some pictures of some furniture done in this and wondered about it. Looked cool. After doing some reading it seems that the blue is a fungus. would this be like spalting?

I did a whole ceiling in blue pine at our cabin. It is a fungus stain, kind of spalting. I don't know if it would show well on something as small as a pen, but on something bigger it looks cool! What are you considering?

Scott.

I did a PITH pen a couple of years ago from beetlekill pine. The 3 different coloured woods are all from the same Home Depot 2X4 . The hardest part was finding a finish that didn't instantly turn the blue stain to gray. Anything wet seemed to do it instantly. Spraying fast drying laquer seemed to work the best (but it still lost some of the blue tinge...)

I am having a devil of a time finding good reclaimed wood for my table and coffee table idea and stumbled on beetle kill/blue pine. I think it would make a wicked table top.
