I can not stop clearing any wood chips or dust around a drilled hole. Even if there are many holes to drill in the same piece.
I still blow away dust and chips on the lathe with my face shield still on. And yes, sometimes I spit a little too. And then make a mess inside the clear visor trying to clean that up.
But today was the worst.
I was re-reading Barry Gross's penturning book again, and was studying the wonderful pictures, step-by-step, and the next picture showed a piece with shavings and dust and I tried to blow it all away. In the photograph.
I'm pretty sure there is a term for behavior like that but maybe I'm better off not knowing it.
