Blanks into Rounds

My neighbor let me use his big band saw to cut my blanks into rounds.
6 Cherry (very green) 10"
12 Walnut (dry 6%) 8" - 10"
1 Siberian Elm 8"

I need to get one of those bandsaws!

I use a random orbital sander to knock down the edges. A lot cheaper and doesn't take up space in my garage.

Bandsaws certainly are handy.

Sales come around often enough or you can find them on places like FB Marketplace.

I am blessed to have inherited my grandfather's 1946 Delta bandsaw. I added a riser kit. It is so much heavier built than anything you can buy today! Love my saw! It's only three years younger than I am! I learned to use it when I was a little kid in my grandfather's shop.

Band saws are for making bowl blanks round, but for me seldom is it worth the time and trouble. When sawing a section of log into blanks, the corners can quickly be knocked off with the chain saw already in hand to make octagons. I don't have to move the band saw, remember to tighten the blade tension, diligently clean all the wet (green) wood from the band saw table and compartments, and scoop up the pile of wet sawdust on the floor. And between push and pull cuts, an octagon can be made round on the lathe in just a few minutes. My two cents.
