I was talking to a carpenter lead man I know about my pen turning, I showed him the one I currently use. He asked me if I wanted some Teak and Mahogony. I don't know how well they turn out, but I guess I will find out in a couple days. Does anyone have some pics of pens from them? I will look, but hoping to find a quick pic.

They turn like a dream. Just wear a mask for dust as it can be toxic.

I've turned Mahogony. It turns fine. Not much to look at though. It generally doesn't have much figure. At least not the stuff that I've turned.

It has a very even grain, but over time it deepens to a beautiful color. I use a burning wire to fancy it up a bit, or turn a 1/4" groove near the top cap and put in some stone inlay.

I haven't turned either one of those. So in the search I used the word Teak, then one for Mahogony and found a lot of pictures and comments on how they turn. Have fun and can't wait to see them when you finish them. Have fun RichB

I will probably get some teak oil and do teak oil/ca glue finish

I've made some bowls from mahogany. They came out nice and the wood was very easy to turn. when turning the dust is much finer and messy compared to other woods so dust collection and a mask are recommended.

Here's a pen I made from a piece of Mahogany from the old house I grew up in. I am no wood expert but, at the time I posted this pen, most agreed it was Mahogany.

Try crosscutting. Trust me. Just be careful of the brittle wood...
