I am a recovering blankaholic - well at least I hope to be.

A couple of months ago I did an inventory and figured I had enough blanks to make about 5000 pens.

Since then I have been to the FLGAPG where I bought and won more blanks.
I just received two boxes of blanks that were from Lou Metcalf's basement.

Help!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff, is there a button you can push so I can't get to any post that has blanks for sale?

Where and when is the next 12 Step meeting?

I found a trick. DON'T PUT THEM IN THE SAME PLACE. I have several locations I store blanks so my wife does not figure out how many I really have. I find I leave a bunch in the shop, but then have a bin in a closet, a bin under the bed, a few dozen in the truck, and a half dozen located in other spots. I actually have a spalted one on my desk at work. That way you don't visually see how many you actually have and can get more not feeling guilty....

Of course, there is always donating to the kids BASH contests. I am already starting to look at things to buy.
There is the looser train. And of course the Super Bowl board.
Now I know Mike is going to need some thing for the summer party.
But last and not least. How about just making a couple of welcome boxed for Edgar to use.
Beginners are happy for everything and anything they get to start the addiction.

Boy, the above makes me sound like a seasoned pusher.
Keep smiling.

I've tried that. Everywhere I look I have blanks stashed, but when I look for a blank I can not find it so I have to get more. I'm with Larry on the twelve step program. Bob

I figure I'm okay as long as Got Junk trucks, psychologists, and camera crews from The Leering Channel aren't knocking on my door.

I'm just building a fortress one 3/4" x 3/4" x 5" timber at a time.

I too am a wood junkie. I have more lumber than I could possible imagine to use no matter what projects I choose and will continue to buy. I will be going to the lumber yard soon to stock up on red oak to prepare for restocking many projects for my fall craft show season. I have been out of the shop for 2 years and have depleted many of my most popular items over those 2 years. I am so far behind I do not know where to begin.

As far as pen blanks, since I started making my own I have found that the ones I have accumulated over the years just lay around. I may need to do a purge:smile:

If I turned eight hours a day for the rest of my life I couldn't use up the blanks I already have cut, not to mention all the logs in the back yard.

I admit it...I'm a wood junkie. I can't pass up a pretty piece of wood to save my life!

Me too, I've saved hundreds of little pieces of wood from my bowl blanks... I cut the blank out of the log, then cut up the rest for pen blanks -- and I don't even turn pens any more. Anyone need some spalted maple or spalted hackberry blanks??

You know you are just enabling an addict here, don't you!

Maybe, but I am trying to cut back.

I don't have a clue how many blanks I have. They're all in the garage and in my hobby room. I like others keep wood that's not cut to size to use for a later time. So if we were going to try to keep up with blanks would a piece of uncut lumber be considered 1 blank or are we supposed to estimate the amount of blanks we could get from that piece and use that number? My addiction may be worse than I think!

When I cut a bowl blank out of olive wood or mesquite I save the corners for pen blanks. I am like sbwertz I couldn't use all the pen blanks I have now. I did get rid of a medium FRB of worthless wood cleaned out about a foot of space on one shelf.

I've still got a backyard full of mulberry if you want more!

I need to find a local source for bowl blanks... although I am sure I could be a hoarder then. I have pen blanks.. and more pen blanks... never enough though since when I go to pick one out, if it is too pretty or special I am.. hmmm I need to save that blank.. lol.. so I think I have an addiction.. :)

Any nice crotches? I like to turn mulberry crotches into bowls and other items.

I have the remains of ELEVEN pollarded mulberry trees in my back yard. I'm SURE you could find something there you like!
