Black Walnut spinning top and birdhouse ornament

Made these awhile back at a WoodCraft class on turning birdhouse ornaments and tops. First time making both items. Haven't been able to reproduce my success with the top but I have made a TON of birdhouse ornaments!

Very nice on both. I've turned quite a few tops like yours. They are easy and fun. Our local turning club donates them to the local children's hospital. Many kids in the hospital can't do much so they really enjoy the tops. We make our major donation around Christmas time. Last year we donated around 400 tops.

Making tops is also a good way to practice tool control and make something useful at the same time.

Nice job on both. I make some of each every year. The ornaments make nice gifts and kids of all ages enjoy the tops. They are both good practice pieces and fun to make.
