It is gorgeous but looks like all red plam to me.
hard as in density or hard as in difficult?
Try it cross grain, now there's some fun turnin!

Bernie, I just finished a red palm and I could swear it was a rather 'soft' wood to turn. Nice pen and nicely finished.
