I need some black alumilite resin blanks for front sections and bodies as a base for my urushi lacquer work. Preferably in 3/4 round by 5 or 6 inch in length and maybe around 20 or so blanks. My wife is going to divorce me if I cut one more piece of ebonite in or even near the house. Please let me know. Thank you.

Chris, FYI I got some Pitch Black Lucite from IPD that I used for that same purpose. They are really dense in color. But, they are not round. You might check it out.

Chris - You said that the Mrs will divorce if you cut the ebonite, but you did not say anything about turning it. I bet some folks on here would be happy to cut the ebonite to size for you, so that you can then turn it.

Actually you might want to talk with Mr. Brooks. I think he is playing with alumilite now.

Thank you Chuck. I have an order coming from IPD but I don't think I ordered any blanks. The blanks being round just saves one step as you know.

I have a few blanks of lucite (not black) here as well that I'm trying as we speak....urushi is curing. I watched Curtis' videos on Alumilite and it looks like cool stuff to work with.

Cheers

There was a thread recently that discussed that the additional pigments needed to make (PR or Alumilite?) a solid opaque color will make it quite hard to thread.

It may be PR or Alumilite so I hope someone can clarify for you ... I'll try finding the thread but thought I'd mention it before you order 20 blanks.

Edit, it was PR .... this was the thread ... http://www.penturners.org/forum/f56/bad-plastic-threading-95342/index2.html

Haha...I was thinking I could pull the lathe and the grinder outside to turn all the blanks I have "cut up". I have all this locally made ebonite sitting here which is so much more difficult to turn than the German stuff I have and takes much longer thus the lovely odor wafting through the rafters. Also, I should have ordered some black lucite with my last order...next time.. I thought I'd post here before I call "THE" Mr. Brooks.
