We are having a new AC unit installed and this morning a BIG crane truck pulled up in front of the house. It was fascinating to watch him snake the big Trane unit out from under the ladder rack in the AC truck and pick it up and swing it WAY out over the front flower bed, front yard, clear over the ridgpole to the back side of the roof and set it down exactly where it had to go. He actually lifted all the wheels of the truck several feet off the ground with the deployed stabilizers so the truck's suspension wouldn't engage when he lifted the unit. Neat. I love big equipment!

Like watching big equipment myself. I operate a Taylor fork lift to unload log trucks. It has a max lift capacity of 80500 lbs. Post a pic but affraid id get in trouble.

Many years ago I had a photo lab in Lakewood Co. A new building was being constructed behind us and they brought in a boom crane. I watched a guy with cowboy boots walk out on the boom with the support cables on his shoulder. With the boom bouncing up and down he walked out to the end of the boom and secured the cables. The precision these guys have when picking and placing beams and other things on the construction site is amazing.

We sat for about 2 hours over in CA one day just watching a big crane loading a ship. Those guys are amazing. This guy today said the biggest lift he has done was at a nuclear power plant. The lift was just under a MILLION pounds.

Being in construction I see these cranes in action more than ever. If they are lifting usually means we are working. If you ever want to really see some intersting crane work watch a highrise being built. When you start seeing helicopters putting things on roofs and lifting things then you have seen something.

They can do some interesting things with cranes... we regularly had them in our yard to pick up some of the boxes we built... 30x40x20 foot square, from 70,000 to 100,000 lbs..... special haulers to take them to the port....

I didn't have pictures of any of them, but these are kinda interesting....
