I would look hard at Amazon. They ocassionally offer free shipping on lathes and their price will be as good or better than anyone else selling it. IF you find a better price, Amazon will usually honor it.
The last thing I would do (with big frown, because the local economies need a "spark") is buy it locally. Locally, you pay premium prices and sales tax.

Bummer - late timing. Rockler just had a sale this past Sat. It was $510. One day sale. Best I've found other than that is $599

Go to a wood show, find the Delta booth and ask if they are selling the demonstration lathe.
Got mine this way. Used only for a three day show. They threw in the lathe, Nova Chuck, extension bed, full stand, and a fancy wood clamp; all for the normal price of the lathe. I just had to pick it up at the end of the show.
