Working on a few peppermills again.. hopefully this will pay off, I have an appointment this week with a store that's interested in carrying some of my turnings... these aren't quite ready yet, but will be in a week..
This one is Catalpa wood.. I added a little stain to help the grain pop.. about 10" high
This one is honduras rosewood.. about 11 inches tall
East Indian Rosewood..10 in tall.. kinda disappointed in this one.. the wood was a brilliant violet color until I put Danish oil on it for a finish.. darkened it too.
This one is Wormy maple with a cocobolo stripe.
I think these three are birch.. the wood was found up on the Tellico River, soaking wet.. lay in my shop for almost 2 years drying... both ends were chewed like a beaver had been working on it.. probably out of a dam somewhere.. I cut one end right after I picked it up and it was so wet and heavy, it jammed my chop saw, kicked the blade back and shattered the motor casing... this piece of wood owes me a chop saw. The mills are 9, 7 and 11 inches in height respectively.
