I think the bearings on my JET mini lathe are going up. There is kind of a knocking sound in the headstock. Anyone had this problem. Where can I get bearings for my lathe? How hard are they to change? It is a JET mini lathe model #708351BC. Are these parts I need to call JET about? How many people have had this problem? I have only had the lathe lass than a year.

Also check the handwheel on the headstock to make sure it is tight. Knocking is not how I would describe the sound of bearings starting to go bad.

How old is your lathe? There used to be a 2 year warranty; but I think the newer ones are warranted for 5 years??

If it is bearings and you do have pay for them yourself, it will be a lot cheaper to buy them from a local bearing shop if you have one in your area. There was a post recently by someone who had to buy bearings and the bearing numbers were posted. Replacing bad bearings is an easy job so don't worry about that part of it.

If you take a screwdriver and put the handle to your ear, and the tip to the bearing housing it will alowe you to identify which bearing is going bad. This allows you to isolate on the sound of a particler bearing. what you should hear is a stead noise, no knocking or thumping or such. Hope this helps.
