I've noticed in some of of YoYo Spin's videos that he simply uses the beal 3 step buff system to finish his pens.

My question is will this provide a durable lasting finish, or should one do some other type of finish (like CA/BLO) prior to buffing? I have used CA/BLO then a top coat of TSW with decent results, but I'm looking for something to use on a couple of matching BOW Majestic Jrs. and future work as well.

thanks!

I always use some type of finish first before buffing. IMHO, buffing only brings out the shine of the finish and provides nothing durable.

In my opinion, Beall Buff is not a finish. I use it and love it, but would never use it without a finish. The first two steps are abrasives, and the third step is a wax.
....except maybe on BOW. I was thinking of trying a Beall Buff only on a BOW pen. It seems like the natural oil of the wood might surfice as a finish. If you try it, please let me know how it works out.

Watch Ed's videos closely. He is often using stabilized woods. He also most often uses at least a sanding sealer (lacquer). Buffing, in this case, may make sense.
