So... I've been wishing for spring. Tonight the plan was to spend some time in the garage (my shop is the 3rd stall of the garage, walled off from the cars in the other 2). I've been busy with things and havn't spent much time out there lately and I've got some new goodies from Exotics to try out.

So... I get home, park the car in the garage, set my stuff in the house and as I'm getting ready to go out, i hear a BANG from out in the garage. (And I've heard that noise before so I knew exactly what it was.)

So ... I got to spend the evening out in the garage - replacing springs on the garage door. Most definitely NOT the spring I was looking for!

I know that sound:smile: When I moved in my current house the previous owner either never put the safety cable through the springs or it rusted off but still have the hole in the wall as a result of said sound.

A similar sound happened 3 days ago to me but came from the basement. The springs on a spring coupler on a circulating heating pump let go. Now that is also a scarry sound.

Homeownership is fun:biggrin:

Yikers John!! Luckily my garage door has torsion springs, not extension springs so when it breaks theres no-where for it to go.

Gotta love it! First my spring broke, then the drive gear torqued off of the motor. Both happened while I was traveling. It costs me extra when the wife is inconvenienced.

I gave the Garage door repair guy a pen the first time he came to fix the door and when something else broke a couple of years later he still had it and gave me a break on the cost. First time was a torsion spring....second time a cable jumped.

I've given repair guys pens in the past. Last night that would have been redundant though - since I did the repair myself. I do like that Menards carries torsion springs so I didn't have to make a service call ( although they are a repair I wouldn't recommend to an average Menards customer.)
