Over the weekend I installed the riser kit on my G0555X 14" Bandsaw. When installing the included 105" blade, it was a real chore to get it on as it seemed to be a really tight fit.

As I thought about it, the old blade was 93 1/2" and with a nominal 6" riser block, the new blade should be 105 1/2". I checked the riser block and found that it was actually 6 1/8" tall, which would result in needing a 105 3/4" blade. The nearest standard blade size is 105" which would explain why I had so much trouble getting the blade on.

By comparison, the 93 1/2" was a loose fit when the tensioner was released.

Is my experience typical? Do folks who use riser kits have trouble installing standard blades?

Also in a somewhat related question, while there was in up indicator on the riser block, there was no front/back indicator. Once I had everything thing put back together, I noticed that the riser block was slightly out of line with the column by about 1/8". Given that everything else lines up, can I assume that this is just a cosmetic problem since the alignment pins all fit?

No problem with the riser block on my G0555 either. I replaced the std. blade with a Timberwolf from Suffolk Machinery. I did need to de-tension considerably, but the Timberwolf is designed to operate at less tension than standard blades. rjwolfe3, I would recommend you try replacing the blade that came with the G0555 with a Timberwolf, you won't believe the difference. It really cuts hardwoods like butter.

I am getting ready to install one on my G0555. I suspect your problem is one of adjusting the secondary tensioning device on the back. Simple to do but not so simpe to explain here. You have to loosen a set screw and turn the threaded stop block. Reread the owners manual for this, it's not real clear in there either but with a little studying, you will see what I'm talking about.

Order the size you need from Suffolk Machinery. They sell Timberwolf blades and will cut them to the lenght you need.
Do a good turn daily!

I had been planning to buy some new blades, most likely Timberwolf, but was waiting to better understand my blade installation problem before placing a order.

Suffolk has the timberwolf blades for buy 3 get 1 free. Their shipping is very reasonable also, shipping for 4 blades to GA was $6.90. Ordered on a Tuesday and received the blades on Friday, Priority Mail.

Frank has it right about the tension adjustment. Not that difficult once you understand how the mechanism works.
