Right after new year's I traded my tablesaw and RAS for a car. (A cool old Saab 900..) I have another old Rockwell saw, but it was waiting for a resto. Covered in rust, and the arbor bearings were shot.

That left me without a good cutting tool for anything, let alone chopping blanks. My bandsaw is ok, but I wanted better.

Sunday I found a miter saw on craigslist. A Delta 8.25" miter saw. Tiny little thing, exactly perfect for picture frames, quick 2x4 cuts, and especially blanks!

A quick cleanup of the rollers for the guard mechanism with gobs of grease, and it works like a charm. The guy I bought it from had just put a Vermont American blade (ugh) on it. Being brand new it still cuts decent, but I'll be looking for a replacement soon. I put an aux fence on it so I'd have some zero clearance capability on the back side.

This isn't an expensive tool, but it takes little space, cuts small pieces beautifully and accurately, and was only $20!!!

I suspect the table saw (under the miter saw in the pics... still rusty when they were taken) will only get used for bigger pieces and sheet goods now.
