Hi peoples,

Today I'm offering quality Olive wood full size pen blanks, grown locally and harvested/processed by me at AU$2.00 per blank.

The offer is for pre-selected packs of 4 blanks at AU$8.00 per pack however, and due to a recent contract I had with Australia Post for special/lower shipping rates for Overseas destinations, I'm offering a "package" price for 1 pack per person, including shipping, anywhere in the world (various costs apply...)

I want this to be an easy, simple and trouble free sale therefore, if you are interested, the following are the requirements;

*- 1 (one) pack per person, only...!

*- The order is made by posting your interest here, in this thread, no PM's will be necessary...!

*- There are 15 IDENTICAL pre-selected packs, numbered from 1 to 15, you don't choose any packs, the pack you get will correspond to the number you are in the cue, for example you are the first to post/order, you get pack #1, if you are #10 to order, you get pack #10, and so on...!

*- After you order, you can proceed immediately with the Paypal payment to this account <<<<<< nyodine@yahoo.com.au>>>>>>
PLEASE, use your IAP name on the payment reference...!

Anyone that wants more than one pack, is welcome to purchase them on my eBay store here, prices and conditions are different...!

Only the "group" picture and one random pack is shown in this thread, to keep this simple however, a pic of each individual pack has been downloaded into my Photobucket account, for viewing if required, here

Right folks, the last pack #15 has been claimed, and that completes this sale offer.

Thank you, everyone...!:smile:

I have plenty of these, you can always get them on my eBay store, as advised on the opening thread (link included)...!

I will be offering other interesting and high grade pen blanks, as soon as I have this one wrapped up (all parcels sent). This is now done...!

Thanks, once again...!:wink::biggrin:

Have you received your parcel yet...???

Hi peoples,

I understand/believe that, some of you have already received your parcel, I appreciated if you could confirm it and don't forget that, I would love to see some pens made from those blanks, soon...!:wink::biggrin:

Thank you,
Cheers
George

George, I received my blanks, they look good! Are all these known to be fully dried? I checked them with a moisture meter, and they register 3% higher than some I have had for a while. Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

What was your readings and how many blanks did you probed...???

That particular batch, was from a tree that I cut about 6 years ago and that I sliced some logs into various sizes blanks about 2" square, those were sealed with wax on the ends and then put to dry. The date on those 2" square was 18/6/2008, they were then and recently sliced up into pen blanks and offered for sale. My MC (moisture content) measurement on those 2" square blanks was 18%, for Olive wood, I'm happy with that and quite safe to work with, there will be no extra movement expected unless exposed to extreme conditions.

I have many "batches" of these type 2" squares (wood dry a lot faster that way, without moving excessively due to the is volume). Wood cut to this size allows me to process it at other sizes, including knife handle blanks and others, cutting them straight to pen blanks, is the fastest way to dry the wood but also where the most number of blanks become useless due to deep cracks and too much warping however, I have many hundreds cut and in dry towers since 2005, those I started to re-process and put on sale, due to lack of storage space and to recover some of my investment, has been a long, long time...!:frown::smile:

With Olive wood and all its variations, even from very old trees, I can never tell what I'm going to get, only because they are old, doesn't mean that they have anything special however, it should also be said that, if one is to find the "treasures", your chances with very old trees are significantly, higher...!:biggrin:

Any wood can absorb a considerable amount of moisture, even if dry or semi-dry, fresh cut wood (from 2" square to 21mm square), such as these 15 packs I sold here, tend to read a little higher than they actually are, to add to that, in my location, we have had a very wet Winter and was raining heavy throughout the week I finish to process those, this affect the wood considerably and adding at least 2 to 5% more on the MC reading, even after a few weeks, this is the very reason why I always advise those that are overseas and buy wood from Australia, to allow the wood to rest/acclimatize to your conditions, before the wood is going to be fully expose (cut into a pen barrel). This will depend also considerably of what temps and moisture levels are reached in your location so, anything from 4 weeks to 8 weeks is advisable but not always necessary...!

Olive wood will always read higher than most other woods, this is due to the natural oils within the wood, in many cases, I have no hesitation in make something out of Olive wood if it reads 20% MC or below...!

Unless I make a mistake with the dates, and I'm not requested to sell/supply green Olive wood (I do, sometimes) either in log form or slab/big blanks, I do not put any Olive wood on sale, unless has been cut (from the log) at least 3 years prior...! This is ONE of the reasons why I got so much stock more than ready for sale while I have been cutting and processing Olive wood for 8 years, processing a fair amount of it, at least twice a year and put to dry.

Olive wood is not the only wood I cut/process, at the moment there are 76 timber species that I have, I like to process a percentage of what I get, mostly freshly cut green trees, into various size blanks and put to dry, pen blanks make up at the moment for 80% of what I process and put to dry, the rest is stored in my open storage paddock, from where I process also about 5 cubic meters of firewood per year, for myself, only...!

I try to sell only blanks that I believe are safe to work with, each person has a different idea to what "dry" wood is, and what is "safe to work wood", you have also to consider the accuracy of most of the cheap MC readers that we see on sale, everywhere. I also know that, I've got one of those that read 4% higher than it should, only a comparison with a very expensive MC reader that I was able to use on this test, allow me to know these differences, I still continue to use the same MC reader but I now know that, it reads 4% higher in average and that, I can work with, now...!

I hope that, in between all the information I have provided that, you find the answer to your question...!

Cheers
George
