I just recently dodged a bullet. I was assembling a raised bed for my wife when my battery was going dead. So, I ran the battery back to the shop, put it on my charger, grabbed another off my other charger and went back to finish our raised bed. An hour or so passed, I gathered up tools and power cords and headed back to the shop. When entering the shop I smelled plastic burning. Not thinking much of it I put everything away. Noticing the smell was getting stronger, so I decided to investigate and I am glad I did. I narrowed it down to the charger and battery I placed an hour before. The battery was super hot, not smoking yet, but getting close. I unplugged the charger and looked closer. My brand new 18v battery was all melted and twisted, as was the charger. I called the service center a couple days later to find out some chargers were recalled due to a defect that caused the charger not to shut off when the battery was charged. Turns out I have one of those chargers. Dewalt is going to replace both the charger and my melted battery. I am glad I caught it when I did, it eventually may of started a fire. This recall wasn't very well known, so I thought I bring it up. Here is the recall notice.

Check your chargers. Mainly older ones from the late 90's (96 - 97). If you have one, quit using it and get it replaced.
