I will be there both Saturday and Sunday. Dad and I will be in the Atlanta Woodcarvers Club booth carving a variety of projects from 10am till noon both days (which will be along the left wall of the building as you come in the West entrance), and wandering around and looking at all the stuff for the rest of the day! I will have a table in the display area that is the walnut and ash tilt top that I put in the other things we make section.

My wife and I plan on being there at least one day. It's not too far off I-85 northeast of Atlanta, shouldn't be a problem to find it. The exit for Indian Trail Rd is well marked and it's a right turn south then a right turn to Oakbrook and a right turn to Jeurgens Ct.

It is really close to the expressway. If you get off at Indian trail and get lost, most folks around there will know where to point you in the right direction.

It was great to see everyone yesterday! THarvey made it in and we talked for a while. The wood show is like old home week, we usually see folks we havent seen for years, and that was what it was like yesterday.

I hope to see those who couldnt make it Saturday will be over on Sunday. Will be in the wood carvers booth till noon today, and then running around looking at all the cool toys. I might even get to run the woodmizer saw for a while.....Trying to figure out what has to be moved in the garage to get one of those in there...I wish....LOL.....

We miss you Russell....get well soon buddy!

How is the show this year? The last time I went it seems like it had gone through a downsizing. I was disappointed. Just wondering if it's gotten better.

I went Friday, as I figured the bad weather that was forcast might actually happen. It didn't!!

I've been going to these shows for a number of years. Seems like they get smaller and smaller every year. Might just be the poor economy, but I thought this years show was even smaller than last. I noticed some big vendors didn't even have a booth this year, just banners in the entry. That might be property of the show organizers, and they put it up regardless of whether those companies show or not.

The two big vendors, Peachtree and Woodline, were there in force. I thought their booths were smaller than last year, but it might just be the venue was smaller, and booth size was reduced. With Peachtree now in their new showroom on Jimmy Carter, hardly seems like its worth spending $10 to see what you can drive a few miles away and see for free. But you'd miss out on those hawkers selling their handy-dandy gizmoes.

This was the first year I went with interest in pen turning. CSUSA has a booth in the right-rear of the hall. I had hoped for a big selection of their products, like some pickguard and high end kits, but their booth was mostly demo stuff and a small selection of pen products, mostly the low cost stuff. I know they base their selection of products to sell on what moves at these shows, but I had high hopes to see more.

I'm sure I'll be there again next year, but then maybe not.

Just got back

I wish I had known others from the IAP were going to be there.

I'm a member of the Georgia Woodworkers Guild. Our booth was very small this year because many members pulled their furniture pieces from the show. We were not allowed to have our pieces juried this year, no ribbons given out.

The venue was terrible. Parking and bathrooms were subpar.

We deserve a better facility to show off our trade.

I went Saturday with my wife. We stayed 4 hours, spent abut $1700 on a Delta lathe and a hybrid table saw and lots of little goodies. Know anybody need to buy a used Ryobi table saw?
Didn't see anybody I recognized from the group, haven't seen everyone enough to know the faces. See ya next meet!

Woodworking Show Atlanta

Interesting comments.
I did not go for the last two years because the show had deteriorated so badly. But I was pleasantly surprised at this show. True, fewer vendors but some had some good prices.

I went on Friday and we had no trouble parking. Parked right around the corner from the WoodMizer. Bathrooms could have been neater but WTF, **** on it.

I, too, wish CSUSA had more stuff but I spent the most there.

The fact that the venue was smaller saved wallking.

Well I am in agreement with most of the comments here. The facility is a sad and worn example of a building that needs to be modernized and at minimum freshened up a bit. The bathrooms were definitely a sad example of indoor plumbing. Might as well have used the floor. The food was also a little sketchy. Saturday and some even Sunday had to park on the street leading to the street of the facility. A very long walk.

All that aside, I had a great time talking to all of the carvers, and turners there at the show. Thanks to everyone who came by and talked for a while. I have been asking the CSUSA folks for the past 3 years to bring some additional stuff for the folks here that penturn, and they have not really brought anything different, and in my opinion have brought less variety of stuff. It is a little frustrating when the opportunity is presented to sell the stuff, but we cannot get them to bring it. They keep telling me that the shipping of the show stuff is much more expensive than it used to be, and they have to limit the stuff they bring. Maybe a few more folks could offer their thoughts to the CSUSA guys, and they might be convinced that we would buy the stuff if they bring it.

I also wanted to thank everyone who came by and voted for my tilt top table during the competition. I WON THE ATLANTA FIRST PRIZE, and will be included in the NATIONAL CONTEST. I appreciate everyone who went to the trouble to go down and vote for my table, and in the coming months, hope you will vote for it in the NATIONAL competion. I will send out a note when the voting starts.

I also thought it was a travesty that the Georgia Guild could not run the normal contest that they have run for years. The quality of the work, and the different projects that are brought in are a tribute to the Georgia woodworking folks and their skills. I hope next year they return the gallery for the Georgia Guild folks, as it was sadly missed this year.
