A few weeks ago, I ran into a gent at the wood shop who told me "I can always tell when someone's gonna buy a pen, because they pick it up and smell it first", so I had a strange idea. I mixed up some PR and added a few drops of rose oil to it. After curing--seemed to take forever, it smells like roses!! Haven't turned it yet, but hope to soon. Odd, but possibly different and unique.....:D

BTW, I love this new fourm--first person from the great nation of Mississippi!!!!

Sarah,

Good idea on the oil but I would be interested to know how well the resin holds up after mixing the oil in it. Still, it sounds like a good idea.

On your BTW - I call Mississippi "home" too. I just work/live in Japan, but when I go home, I go to Tunica BC, (before casinos) [:)] Probably retire within the next 10 years. LOW taxes and good services.

Hey, I just noticed you are from Holly Springs. We are practically neighbors (when I am back in the States.) If you want to buy some pen blanks locally, Colco in Memphis has a fair selection.

I've made one with coffee beans in it before. Going to make one out of grounds soon too. Dont know how long the smell will last or if it'll make it's way out of the CA.

Just spent my lunch at colco yesterday. Lots of nice blanks. Tunica hu??? Believe it or not, don't think I've ever been there. Too easy to give up pen blank money!! Let me know next time you're on this side of the pond.

I did the same for someone with Pina Colada fragrance. The shop smelled great. Don't think I added enough to the resin, but did mix up some wax with the fragrance so it can be "re-aroma-ed" at any time.

Mississippi? Isn't that like the size of one of our counties???[8D]

What kind of oil and where did you get it? Is it like the same kind you add to candles?

I got the oil at a craft booth at the fair recently. It was 1/2 oz. for about $5. It only takes a little, so it should last a while.

BTW, we probably are about the size of a county!! (Explains why we're all related, I guess....[}:)])

Bumping this up because I would also be interested in how it turned out.. anyone else tried adding the oils to PR?

I did some with Pina Coloda oil in resin. No problem curing or turnng the PR. The blank smelled great while turning, but because there is so little plastic when you're done, there wasn't much scent left. Not giving up, I took some Renaissance Wax and added some of the scent to it and gave a bit of the wax mixture away with the pen to "refresh" it once in a while. Also thought of making a little sachet with the aroma to put in the bottom of a pen sleeve so you could always freshen it up.
