Disclaimer - The following thread is not meant to hurt anyones feeling, just for a few laughs.....

I think a valid argument can be made that we (penmakers) are nerds.

Our obsession over types of ink, and cartridges, and all the minute details.

We buy more forms of protection for our pens than a college's math club buys.

We get all geeked out and excited when a new blank comes out, or there is a stock of a certain blank.

The details of sizes, lengths, weights, etc.

We can meet other penmakers and talk about platings on different kits for hours.

What are your examples????

ROTFLMAO!
I snicker every time I see deminsions, weights, etc posted with a new pen. Immediately afterwards, you'll see 50 MORE almost identical to the first made by 50 different makers.

I am a bit of a nerd, but I like to START WAY OUTSIDE the lines and do my coloring "away from center".

Funny post!

Personally, I prefer the more encompassing "geek". I don't think penmaking counts as nonsocial!

nerd [nurd] noun Slang.
...
2.an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.
Also, nurd.

Origin:
1960–65, Americanism; obscurely derived expressive formation

geek [geek]
noun
...
2.a person who has excessive enthusiasm for and some expertise about a specialized subject or activity: a foreign-film geek.

Speak for yourself. Some of us are are altruistic collectors and/or purveyors of fine writing instruments, never mind that we are anal about a thousandth or two in fit and finish.

I personally like to call my self a geek most of the time and when people ask the difference I point them to this venn diagram (although some say the fact I use a venn diagram to describe the difference points back to nerd LOL)
