Ambrosia Maple
Rustic Maple
Country Maple

They look the same on the computer but having never actually seen it in person I thought someone here might have seen it.

Here's what I understand these sometimes loosely applied names to mean:

Ambrosia maple has been attacked by ambrosia beetles. Color streaks caused by a form of spalting.

Rustic maple - stuff that would have been burned by the mill in the old days. Contains knots and other defects that HGTV has managed to convince some people are trendy.

Country maple - darker heartwood present. Not the same as the ambrosia streaks.

Ambrosia maple will have worm holes where the streaks are. It's the bettle larva that bore into the wood and make it possible for the fungus colonies to get in (spaulting).

So not the same.

Large pieces of each will look very different from each other. But, they are all maple and if you took a small enough sample from a large board of each type, you could find parts that would all look the same (e.g. like clear maple).

If you are talking about boards for making furniture, they will look different.

If you are talking about pen blanks, then any name beyond "maple" could be meaningless and there may be no difference in the look of some of the individual pieces cut from larger stock. Or their might be, depending on how it was cut.

Wondering about the qualities of the wood. Since Ambrosia is beetle affected I would suspect it to be softer. Not so sure about the other stuff.
