Hi - I'm new to this forum. I'm looking at bench-top lathes, particularly the Vicmarc VL100. Has anyone used this lathe? Along with making pens, I'd like to make boxes, etc.

I have two. I got one when they first came out and recently added a second one. I also have a Woodfast 20" longbed. I consider the VL100 the best mini on the market. You get what you pay for, this lathe I consider worth the money. I have used for all types of turning. Boxes, pens, bowls, hollow vessels, goblets, etc. If it fits you can turn it. The first VL100 I bought the controller and motor from Craft Supply. The second VL100 I got the controller and motor on Ebay. It's nice to see someone considering the VL100. Our club also purchased one to use at shows, in particular the county fair. It also gets a lot of use from members who do not yet own their own lathe.

Take a look at the new Rikon. Lots of good things have been posted about it. Unfortunately, TTBOMK, no VS model is available.
