The back end has what looks like a spreader for a chain drive. I'll rule out nothing. Anything with an engine gets my attention, but no steering wheel is an extra.

Wheels look a bit like they were made to run on some sort of track - could be it wouldn't have needed a steering wheel if it were running along a track .... Gauge in the front - maybe measure steam pressure or water pressure .... ?

Looks like an older fire fighting vehicle, steam driven water pump, etc. Quite possibly horse drawn.

Where on earth did you discover this thing?

IF you find out, please post the identity to put interested minds to rest.

I agree with Fred. It looks like photos of an early fire truck. Pulled by horse, pumped by motor or hand power with the handles on top of the tank. The pump handles would swing out to the sides so four or so men could pump while others worked the fire. They did work sorta.

That's one of them new fangled time machine contraptions. It runs on grain alcohol and only goes straight..once it his 87 mph, the wheels come off and your body is driven 6 feet down into the ground...your time is then up.

I'm going to ask the lady that I think owns the farm tomorrow. The engine intrigues me. No valve cover or nothing. Whatever it is I may need one.

I would guess it was either tractor or horse drawn, the "spreader" could have been used for any number of things. The engine looks like an old Clinton one cylinder, I think they were used on a lot of different types of machinery. All I know is that we didn't use anything like it in my area.

The steel wheels were common on a lot of farm equipment before the use of rubber tires. I have some like them that came off a row binder and an old combine. I would have the entire machines but no room for them.

If tht's a one holer, I really impressed. It takes up as much space as a small block. Now I gotta find out what we're going to make with it.

BUT, if you could get it up to exactly 88 mph, you go back to the future instead of taking a dirt nap.

Looks like this one needed a tune up. R.I.P.
