I'm home today recovering from a minor surgery procedure.... was a day surgery on Wednesday, out and back home by 2 pm.... but yesterday morning I woke up with the hiccups and again this morning... any one have a cure?

I've tried holding my breath, breathing, I've drunk about a quart of pickle juice, had a couple tablespoons of peanut butter, drunk hot water, hot coffee, and anything else that has been suggested... some times they will let up for a few minutes than back to hicking.... thinking it may be induced by the anesthesia as I had a similar problem about 8 years ago when I had an umbilical hernia repair and wasn't fed anything but ice for 5 days... everytime I would take a little ice, I would get the hiccups then too and that wasn't fun with an 8" slit down my belly.

I know... in lieu of some of the major accidents our members have had, my is more a minor annoyance than a problem.

I lie flat on my back on the floor. Sometimes, I stretch/twist my torso slowly. Sometime I put my arms under my head. Most of the time they go right away, sometimes it takes a minute or two. I'll take a huge lungful and hold my breath while tying to push the abs down. My theory is hiccups are a muscle spasm of the diaphragm, so I try to us stretching and relaxing. good luck

some people find " Asilone " which is a combination of antacids and simethicone sometimes works for some patients. Also heard good things about peppermint oil .

Finally, a topic where I can actually be helpful. Get a big glass of water. Slowly drink it. Don't chug it. Take tiny sips and swallows for a real long time. Don't hold your breath. Breathe slowly through your nose. This works every time for me.

Drink a glass of water with your mouth on the far edge of the rim. Trust me, I'm a doctor.😅

I hold my breath and pinch my nose until I just can't do it anymore. Works every time with 2-3 attempts.

i have it on good authority (QI a british show) that the only 100% cure for hiccups is having your prostate tickled. seems extreme but apparently science

Thanks for all the suggestions... most didn't work, but (KNOCK KNOCK on green wood (side of the head)) they have finally subsided about 4 am this morning... hopefully they will stay away. 2 days of hiccuping is hard on the body. Hopefully I can get a good nap in today and catch up on my sleep.
