OK, so I'm new and haven't turned a pen yet. So I'm going to the Rocker Pen turning demo in Pasadena, CA this Saturday September 25th. Anyone else going? It would be cool to meet some local pen turners.

Careful. Thats what I did March 07. I dindt have any tools needed and now I have thousands spent and want thousands more in tools. One of the best hobbies I have ever had and wouldnt give it up. Just wish I hit the lottery.

60 Miles is a bit far for me to travel. Sorry I can't make those meetings.

Yep. My husband bought me a $200 mini lathe in March for my birthday. Add turning tools, low speed grinder, wolverine system, disc/belt sander, new bandsaw, (3 wheeler just didn't do the job), etc...and I am up to almost $3000! And our woodshop is getting WAY too small! My husband does conventional woodworking, so he has all HIS tools in there too...jointer, table saw, thickness planer, drill press (most of which I use too, of course).
But I'm having a wonderful time! I've turned almost 200 pens so far.
