(See title) I would be interested in any advice you can give me. A son-in-law lost the button to a pen I made for him. I have seen these where the plastic piece that is threaded breaks off, but that is not the case here - he simply seems to have unscrewed the button and lost it. I bought a new kit and the button from it screws right on and is secure, but I was wondering if anyone had ever made a replacement button out of wood or acrylic. That way I wouldn't have a kit with the button missing 🙄.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, making one sounds like it could be a great customization even without lost parts. Necessity is the mother of invention, right? I'll be watching this to see how it plays out.

I still like the idea of a custom made button--i wonder if a dab of CA or epoxy would hold one in place without having to get it threaded.

Thanks for the thought, @Bean_Counter. As it happens, another member (@wouldentu2?) saw this thread and walked up to me at our monthly wood turning club meeting last night and handed me a chrome button. So, problem solved. Thanks Dave!!
That's great, but I'm still curious now. I wonder if I can even find a tap that small? I'm quite sure I don't have anything that small to measure the threads.

If I were to do it, I would drill a hole to a size that slipped over the threads and carefully epoxy it to the plastic plunger. I would first epoxy in a piece of steel paper clip to make the plastic plunger stronger.
