While going thru the back issues of Woodturning design magazine I seen the ad for the DFI stainless stopper fittings. Couple of questions does the finish live up to their claims on their web site and ads? And for anybody that has used both Niles and DFI stainless stopper fittings what do you think of them?

I believe the DFI stoppers are a "knock-off" from Ruth Niles' stoppers. They started to show up in the market 2-3 years ago. Perhaps Ruth's US patent doesn't apply up here in Canada?

I have used and will continue to use Ruth's stoppers. I haven't has any issues with them. Both use #304 stainless steel use so I would guess this guy's stoppers out of Quebec finish will also last.

I don't want to start any kind of flaming war, I understand that a lot of people know and like Ms. Niles that is fine. I'm am interested in people that have used the bottle stoppers.

I am not crazy about the made in the USA stuff. Since most will have in their homes, products from wally world etc made out side of the US including a lot of the food stuffs at your local grocery store.

Besides being from the Southeast Michigan, Canada is almost a suburb of the US or visa versa. EH!

I have made some of Ruth Niles stoppers for friends. I don't use them personally since my wife & I rarely drink wine. But of the ones that I know are being used, the people like them, & I've looked at them more than a year later, and they show no sign of corrosion, and my friends say they haven't had any issues with them. I've never made the DFI stoppers, so I can't say. But if they are 304 stainless, I would think they would hold up as well.

I find it funny when Canadian stores snub Canadians by a 15% price difference in Canadian vs US currency when currently Canadian currency is worth more.

That is another reason I was asking, because of the difference in pricing for them the Niles are $6.05 each US The DFI are $5.00 each US and $5.75 CAD each. Which seemed a little odd as pointed out. Since I haven't made any yet I was doing research, about the quality/price thing!

The Canadian stoppers may be cheaper (US list) but our postal and shipping costs are considerably higher. We don't have those nice "real cheap" flat rate box options here in Canada like you have in the US. Depending your order size the shipping and custom fees may eat up your potential savings.

As noted in other posts, both are made from the same material (304 stainless) and the 304 stainless stoppers that I have made over the past 2-3 years have held up well (i.e., no signs of corrosion from red wine, etc.)
