Ok, I replaced a sprinkler head. When the system went off I could see a small stream of water coming out of the top. I unscrewed the whole thing and there was water still coming out of the pipe. What would cause this and how do I fix it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Could it be back pressure from the rest of the line. On some of my properties I have 2" lines and it takes 1 or 2 hours to stop the water.

Lin.

I was thinking about the solenoid valve too. If that is the case, wouldn't the others on the same line be leaking too?

I would have also quessed that it was the rest of the system draining out. That or the valve isn't completely closing.

Not necessarily, the water will go to the lowest sprinkler head first.

Absolutely true, but if it is restricted by the sprinkler head it will back up in the pipe and flow out the unrestricted head also.

Ok thanks guys. I will turn them on and off and wait to see what happens.
I appreciate the input.

If it's a quick repair and not alot of pressure, pack it with bread. Bread will stop the water, but once you open the valve, it will quickly break down and be jettisoned.
