I have a question about PEX pipe.
1, Is it better to use the Pro Pex and the expander tool or is the stuff from Home Depot that has the crimp on clamps any good?
2, Will the pex expand and fit over a female copper fitting?
I have always been a copper and sweat joints person but one of the buildings that I maintain has that gray Quest pipe and I need a fast easy way to replace some of the areas that are causing us the most problems. Some of the valves don't shut down tight so soldering can be difficult and shutting down the whole building isn't an option. Most of our problems are in one area of each unit and we will be replumbing that whole area. Has anybody used these systems?

The crimp fittings will work fine but the pex will not fit over copper pipe you can use a push fit fitting from Home Depot (brand name Shark bite) or thay make a copper sweat fitting that will except the pex pipe hope this helps

Thanks for the response. I have never used any kind of Pex pipe before and didn't want to trade one set of issues with another. Sharkbites are a life saver. We just have some tight areas that it would be easier if we could slip something over a fitting because of space there is no pipe to cut and we have to remove a fitting out of the female end of a street elbow, clean it up and solder in a piece of pipe without burning down the building. There is a few of these assemblies that I think they put them together, then built the building around them.
