That's the show where our very own PenWorks (Anthony) was participating. Perhaps he will tell you more!![:D][:D][:D]

Rumor has it, he bowed out of the bidding at a little over 4 million - but that's just a rumor [:0][:0][:0][:0]

(that I just started)[;)][;)][;)]

I lived for about 3 months just down the road from the Shelby plant in El Segunda, CA back in '65 or '66. They were converting the mustangs to the Shelby mustang.. I think I saw the Cobra there.. or one like it anyway. Not sure if the plant was in El Segundo .. I lived across from the LA airport on the El Segundo highway.. just not sure where the city line was along there.
Angela,

I can get you a cobra skin for just under $4 million!!!!

Such a deal!!!!!!!!!![:D][:D][:D]

Oh Ed, I wouldn't want to feel like I was taking advantage of your generosity, so let me pay you 4.5 million! [:D]

Carrol Shelby made a twin of that car for Bill Cosby. After Cosby sold it, one of the later owners totaled it. How would you like to be that guy watching your wrecked cars twin go for 5.5 Mil. Not being Shelby,s personel car would drop the price, but being the twin and Cosby's car, I bet it would have still fetched enough for some great pen blanks, lol.
If you get a chance. Bill Cosby has a track on one of his older CDs about the day Shelby delivered the car to him. It's hilarious.

Is that the one where he didn't know how to fill up the gas tank?

Yea, I've heard that Cosby routine. I laughed so hard I almost threw up![:0] I used to live in San Diego and had a friend who had a Cobra. He let me drive it a couple of times, finest automobile I've ever driven and the most fun.

Since you are speaking of Cobra's. Stipula Pen company of Italy, made a Limited Edition of 12 Cobra Pens for the show. They sent me #1 & #2. It is based on the Da Vinci pen they make. Hand painted Cobra on a blue resin, retractable 18K gold nib. Very hard to photograph the car, as it is painted around the pen barrel. Retail was $1,800.00 didn't sell one at the show. So if anyone wants a deal on a Cobra, and yes it is less than 5 Mil. [:D]

While I agree that it's a nice car with a piece of history behind it...The only Furd I'd own would be elainor from gone in 60 seconds. That was a beauty of a car. I've ridden in a genuine cobra 427 and I was not all that impressed personally. for 5.5 mil I'd rather own a mclaren or saleen s7.

In '65 when I lived in El Segunda, just down the road from the Shelby plant, I was tooling around in a '64 Corvette Stingray, 327 cube at 365 hp hard top convertible. Only time I ever had the cajones to take it to speed, I was running the 405 south about Huntington Beach... I reached 125 mph, the front end was rising and I still had accelerator left... figured that was fast enough.
I always admired the Shelbies, but preferred my 'vette

I drove a 'vette until I got married in '70... seems like everytime I drove anywhere near a cop, he would turn and follow me.

I drive an 04 Mustang Cobra that puts out 450HP and 500Ft# of torque at the rear wheels. Another $8500 at the speed shop will bring me up to about 650 HP and about the same ft# torque. The car behaves well in traffic and gets over 24 mpg on the interstate. While the real Cobra is very fast and looks fantastic, I can tell you from personal experience that eggs will fry on the floor boards after 30 min or so of driving. Those blistered feet are more than just rumors. At my age the 427 is out of the question. Gotta have some creature comfort now. Not to mention the $500,000.00!!! In 66' it cost around $7000 and was nothing more than a race car with mufflers and lights. It was a very fast car that would kill you just as fast. I love those cars though.......
