Anyone know what type of wood this is?

Picked a stack of these up over the weekend.
My guess is some type of rosewood which appears to be quartersawn when I looked at the end grain. Straight lines across and with the grain in the pieces so straight I'm sure it was quartersawn.
Reminds me of guitar neck pieces I got from Martin Guitar back home in Pa.
The top strip I put some sealer on (left side) to bring out color and grain a little more.
The others are natural color.

Thanks, Keith

I'd agree it's rosewood but there are more than one type of rosewood. Can't really say which one you have.

I have used a lot of East Indian rosewood veneer. Several hundred square feet. It looks like this the deep red and the streaks of black. All straight grain. Dalbergia latifolia

I have some Pau Ferro that I bought over 40 years ago. Some pieces can look like yours once aged a little as it darkens.

You can always send a sample to your Forest Products Laboratory for analysis and they might be able to identify it. It is a free service for you folks and they will do 3 samples per year.

Shoot Pete, you'r photo looks like a much younger fellow! ;)

I will agree with all suggestions above (I favor a Rosewood from my experience with the 'Estate Sale' event from years past); but Pau Ferro is also a candidate. I suspect the blanks will be beautiful.
