Went to a yard sale today and found this Split Bamboo Fly rod. Paid $10.00 for it and the 2 tips that came with it have no eyelets on the tips but that is fixable. Trying to see if there is value in it so I either use it or resell it. The case it came with is canvas and shows some age as well. I used to flyfish and learned on a rod just like this.

I've made a couple of fishing rods. Not fly rods, yet, and definitly not bamboo. but I have seen what it takes to make one by hand. From what I know it is worth "something" simply because it is bamboo. I would say quite a bit more than $10 as well. I have the blank to make a fly rod and that alone cost me $75 or so and that is a graphite blank pre made and ready for the bits and pieces to be added to it.

If you like to fish I would say get it in working condition and try it out. That would be the real test of what it is worth to you at least. I know my custom rods are worth more than I could sell them for to me.

I have learned the seat is german silver. Someone on a flyfishing forum told me it was not a low end rod. I wish there was something written near the butt and I may have to look again with stronger glasses (eyes not what they used to be) and not sure what I am going to do with it yet I may start fly fishing again to relax which would be funm who knows.

I hear the White Mountains are a great place to fly fish. We've been hitting Big Lake recently!

Haven't been to Big Lake in ages if we plan a camping trip I will give you a ring George.
Sounds good, we could bring our fifth wheel up. THey have one very nice campground with full hook ups.

We started to go up this week then realized it was a holiday week and the nice thing about being retired is to NOT go out camping/fishing when everyone else does!

If you do decide to come up soon, we have been fishing Sunrise lake which is only 12 miles from Big Lake and have been catching our limit of FAT 15"-16" rainbows the past few months.

I have a very similar heaxagonal bamboo rod but a five piece. Has no writing on it and wouldnt try casting with it but it makes a great wall piece!! Nice find :)

What you have is a rod that was never completed by the biulder and it is higher end! Note the taper at the rod tip, thats for the tip eyelet's ferrel, this rod has never been casted! However it is old and old bamboo is either a flyfishing dream or kindeling! I would get the rod finish and carefully cast an under weight line, then it's rated line. The tip is where it will break if it does. Having a secound tip will preserve it's value as a collectors rod........the real seat is worth far more than $10! I love the buttery feel of bamboo! Too bad most of oour fishing is duck n chuck!

You got an amazing deal!
