Another USS California BB-44 Pen

This is another pen made from the teak wood deck off Battleship USS California (BB-44).

The pen was made for in a friend of mine whose father was a PT Boat skipper in the Leyte Gulf during WWII. The California also participated in the Battle of Leryte Gulf where she helped destroy the Japanese fleet in one of the largest naval battles in history.

The wood was only treated with teak oil. I wanted to make sure he could "touch history" when using the pen.

Beautiful work of art that leaves one holding a piece of history in the palm of the hand!! I love the teak oil look using the wood just as if it were on the deck. Yields a striking contrast emphasizing the wood. Great job Larry !!

You just can't put a price on that kind of pen. To be able to hold and spindle that pen between your fingers, well, priceless! My son in law is a Navy man. He'd go nuts over this work of art.

How many coats of teak oil did you use? How often would you reapply it?

Those who it carried into battle,
