Another Resin Question

Hey Guys,

I have been gone a while, but now I am back. I have a question about molds for polyester resin-couldn't you make one out of wood? Then you could make seperate sections the exact size blank you want, therefor completly eliminating waste.

You can use wood to cast resin, however there are a couple of things that can go wrong. If you leave the resin in too long, you could have the resin stuck to the wood. If you take the resin out as soon as it sets up, you usually get a film of resin stuck to the wood. It won't affect future casts, but it does get rather messy. If you don't mind the mess, it could yield great results.

I wondered where you were, Jake. Good to have you back posting. When I did my casting I made molds from silicone modeling clay. I used 3/4" square X 6" blanks to form the molds. Each mold then held about 2 ounces of resin. When the resin hardens, you have blank sized material to work with. Before anyone asks, I stopped when I was helped to understand that color-blind people should not attempt to mix colored resins. []
