Another computer ????

For some reason my computer does not recognize my camera any more. I always was able to just plug the cable in that connects the computer to the camera and turn the camera on and the camera's photo file opens up. Have been doing this for years. Used it a couple weeks ago. Nothing new changed. I try installing the disk and it says its there.

Any suggestions???

What OS? If windows, uninstall the camera software if any, and delete the USB port then reboot the computer not just windows. plug in the camera and see if it will see it now.
 
Did you install windows 10? A lot of my devices were no longer recognized after I upgraded. Even my monitor. I had to do a lot of tinkering around to get each one to work again. If you didn't upgrade you may have a damaged driver, try downloading new drivers from the camera makers website and try again. Just my 2 1/2 cents

Windows XP 64 Pro. No camera software. I tried using different USB ports. Tried doing a restore and that did nothing either.

Not computer literate here.:biggrin:

It might also be the cable. Either way, I think that I would try connecting it to another computer as suggested if you have one available, and troubleshoot from there.

As for looking for it, plug it in, go to my computer, check whether the removable drive is there, and click on it directly...

This is a good idea, if the computer recognizes it, you should just be able to click it. If I remember right there is a hardware folder somewhere where you can run a test with windows xp, also the driver could just have become corrupted, if nothing else works. Go to the camera makers website, look for the most recent drivers and try them.

As silly as this sounds, the usb cable may be bad or not making the appropriate physical connection with the camera.
 
If you can't access the camera via My Computer then it's likely a virus or the USB cable. I hope you know the letter of the drive. If they all say insert a disc then it's not there.

Funny you should say that. I forgot a few years ago, I had a usb port go bad and it would fry usb cables. So Yea, you might try a different cable and maybe a different port.

If you don't know the letter, Just go to my computer first and then plug it in and see it pop up, it will most likely (but rarely may not) be the furthest letter in the alphabet.

Thanks all that replied. I decided the easiest thing to do was buy one of those flash drive card readers that plugs into a USB port. Easy and cheap. Probably should have done that years ago.:smile:

My computer did not have any card reader built in. My computer is hand built.
